A clearer view of the magazine

Independent has a new set of tools for readers, artists and prospective partners. The latest upgrade makes our recorded audience figures public, introduces confirmed subscriber access for participation and sets out editorial rewards for the monthly chart. We have also refined the digest, partnership navigation and the way the magazine appears when shared. Here is a short guide to what each change does.

1. Public audience statistics

The new Audience Statistics page brings visits, page views, countries, popular pages and confirmed subscribers into one place. Choose the last seven or 30 days, explore the daily graph and see where readers connect from. Exact daily figures are available alongside the chart.

These are recorded figures from Independent’s own counter hosted on Cloudflare, not estimated reach. Visits count external or direct entrances; page views count recorded visible pages. Neither number represents unique people. The page explains the method so artists and advertisers can assess the figures in context.

2. A compact counter, with the leading countries

The quiet counter near the bottom of the site keeps visits, page views and countries together. A second line lists up to five leading countries with their visit counts, using USA for the United States. Both rows lead to the detailed report, and Audience statistics is also available in the footer menu.

Public figures refresh once per day, on the first request after 00:00 UTC. Visits continue to be recorded between updates. The seven-day and 30-day options describe the reporting period; they are not separate update schedules.

3. Confirmed subscribers, counted openly

The subscription page now shows how many active, confirmed email subscriptions Independent has. The same total appears in the public statistics. Pending confirmations and unsubscribed addresses are excluded.

This is the overall active subscriber total in the daily snapshot, rather than the number of new subscriptions during the selected traffic period. Only the aggregate count is public; subscriber email addresses are not displayed.

4. Confirm first, then participate

Submitting a track, sending an ordinary editorial message or suggestion, commenting and participating in voting now require an active, confirmed Independent Digest subscription. The participation panel explains the condition and asks for consent before sending a confirmation email.

Open the email, press Confirm subscription, then return to the form and submit it. Already subscribed? Use the same address to request a fresh access link. A known subscriber address alone cannot be used as proof of ownership. Advertising and sponsorship enquiries remain exempt and can be sent through the partnership form without subscribing.

5. Monthly Top 3: personal artist cards. No. 1: an article too

The first three places in each edition’s final Monthly Top 15 earn personal artist cards in Independent, free of charge. First place also earns a separate magazine feature article.

Monthly No. 1 receives a card plus an article. Monthly No. 2 and No. 3 receive cards. The editorial team prepares the introductions, music descriptions, photographs and links using materials supplied by the artists. The winner’s article is a separate editorial story, not simply a renamed card.

Awards follow the final monthly results, not a temporary live position. Existing artist pages stay available, repeat achievements retain dated history, and a new Monthly Top 3 badge recognises qualifying results. Participation and voting availability remain subject to the rules and status shown on the chart page.

6. A weekly digest that follows the news

The digest now collects new published articles, website updates and project announcements rather than waiting for a fixed five-story issue. It is scheduled for Mondays at 07:00 UTC. If there is nothing new, no issue is sent.

Editors can also select an urgent announcement for a same-day issue. Stories sent urgently are excluded from the following weekly digest. Each issue includes a clearly labelled Music Promotion Agency promotion, while the confirmation email has a rounded button and a direct fallback link.

7. More useful links for partners and readers

The advertising page now places Audience statistics beside Discuss a partnership and Download media kit. Prospective partners can review the magazine’s recorded reach before making an enquiry.

We have also added branded share artwork and completed the site icon formats, helping services identify Independent when a link is shared. The focus of this upgrade is practical: clearer figures, verified participation and a published explanation of what artists can earn through the monthly chart. Explore the updated sections below.
