Your music deserves more than a release link

A new song introduces your sound. A compelling story helps listeners remember the artist behind it. Explore artist features, interviews, releases, playlists and reader charts with Independent.

Releasing music is an important moment. But once the track is available, another challenge begins: giving people a reason to notice it, listen closely and remember your name.

A streaming link tells listeners where to find a recording. It rarely explains what made you write it, how your sound developed or why this particular release matters. Those details can turn a passing encounter into a deeper interest in your work.

Independent is an international magazine about independent music. Through its editorial sections, listening space and partnership opportunities, the magazine offers different ways to introduce a release, share an artist’s perspective and connect music with its wider story.

Give your release a story

A single or album can begin a conversation about much more than its release date. An unusual recording process, a change in direction, a meaningful collaboration or the circumstances behind a song can give readers a reason to explore it.

Releases is the natural home for release-focused coverage. A useful introduction brings together the essential facts, artwork, background and listening links, helping readers move from discovering the story to hearing the music.

When contacting the editors, explain what makes this release distinctive. Specific details are more useful than describing a song as “unique” or predicting that it will become a hit.

Let readers meet the artist

An interview creates room for an artist’s own voice: the choices, influences, doubts and ambitions behind the finished recording.

In Interviews, the focus can extend beyond a current release to the creative process and the experiences that shaped it. A thoughtful answer about one difficult artistic decision can reveal more than a long list of achievements.

For a first introduction, Discover offers a different editorial starting point: why should readers pay attention to this artist now, and which recording should they hear first?

Editorial proposals are reviewed individually. Submitting information does not guarantee publication.

Introduce the project behind the music

Sometimes the story is larger than one artist or recording. It might involve a studio, label, music platform, independent initiative or a service helping musicians create and share their work.

Projects provides a place to explain that idea: who it serves, how it works and what makes it useful. A strong project introduction answers practical questions. What can someone do with it? Who is it intended for? Where should an interested reader begin?

Create another opportunity to be heard

Reading and listening can support each other. After discovering an artist’s background, a reader may want to hear the recording immediately.

Artists can submit a Spotify track to Independent Playlist, choosing a genre and sending the link for editorial review. Reader participation requires an active, confirmed Independent Digest subscription. Approved recordings appear in the magazine’s listening collection. This does not automatically place them in a separate playlist managed inside a Spotify account.

Independent Charts provides a further reader-participation format, with Weekly Top 10, Monthly Top 15 and Global Top 100 rankings. Voting is subject to the published rules and opens when the required verification and security services are connected.

Each edition’s final monthly Top 3 earns personal artist cards. The monthly number-one artist also earns a separate magazine feature. These are editorially prepared rewards based on final results and artist-supplied materials. Advertising cannot purchase these rewards.

Keep the full story on the website

A newsletter introduction should make you want to read more. The complete article belongs on the website.

Independent Digest introduces new published material with short descriptions and links to the complete stories. It gives subscribers another opportunity to discover an article they may have missed. Weekly issues include new published material without repeating previously delivered stories; an empty issue is not sent.

Sponsored newsletter placements are also available by arrangement. They are clearly identified and remain separate from editorial selection.

Choose a format that fits your goal

An artist introducing a new release may need a different approach from a studio presenting its services or a platform announcing a new feature.

Advertise & Partnerships explains the available sponsored formats, writing services and campaign packages. You can also download the media kit and review the magazine’s public audience statistics before discussing a placement.

Paid coverage is labeled. It does not buy chart positions, favorable editorial judgment or guaranteed listening figures.

Start with the material you already have

Prepare a short biography, your music links, release information and photographs you have permission to publish. Add a few specific details about your work: an unexpected influence, a turning point or the idea behind the recording.

You do not need to write a finished article before approaching the team. Contact Independent with your story or discuss a partnership. Give readers a reason to discover the person, purpose and creative work behind the next link they open.

Reader messages require a confirmed subscription; partnership inquiries are exempt.
